I see so many people suggesting that the suit of Pentacles is all about Money, Career, Material Possessions and so on - which feels very superficial and I think misses the deeper understanding of Pentacles...

I think of Pentacles as being a bit broader than this... Because they’re connected with Earth energy, to me they speak to the foundations of life, the things that help us feel steady and supported in the world. Money and work can absolutely be part of that, but they’re really just one way that stability shows up in our lives.

If you look at it through something like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Pentacles sit around those base layers of security and safety. Its how we build something solid under our feet (something that can often take time, commitment and hard work) like our health, or our home. Its the things we put our effort into, and the ways we invest our time and energy to create stability in all the ways that matter most to us.

So at its heart, I think the Ten of Pentacles is about established foundations that endure over time, highlighting where someone has tended, or is tending their foundations and building something sustainable in their life.

And if we understand that the Tree of Life (depicted in the 10 coins) is really a map of connection, where each of the 10 Sephiroth (circles of the Tree of Life) links to the others, creating a network where energy flows and supports the whole system on the 22 pathways, it gives a lovely sense that stability doesn’t exist in isolation. It's created through relationships, structures, and continuity over time.

So all this to say that I think the Ten of Pentacles reflects where strong foundations have been built over time, creating stability that supports family, community, and future generations; and in the Tree of Life pattern formed by the coins, to me suggests that this stability comes from interconnected relationships, shared effort, and the many energies of life working together to create something long lasting.
